Life in Taiwan

I have served as an Envision Associate in Taipei Taiwan since 2009. In 2012, our team began The Aroma Church and Cafe where we hope that people will "smell, become, and spread The Aroma of Christ." In 2019, after returning from Home Assignment, I began managing the Aroma Cafe!

Here is my latest newsletter:
Something Good
“I know that You are always up to something good.” God is always doing something good. That’s a song we have been singing recently at The Aroma Church, and it’s so true! Over the past few months, we have been able to see God doing good things in our midst!

3 people are planning to follow Jesus in baptism on Easter Sunday.

Our Ximen Cafe has been up and running for 1 month now and is excited to be hosting several events that are welcoming in new people into our community. I have an incredible team that I’m working with in the cafe.

Our missionary, Nancy Chang is coming back to Taiwan with her YWAM team to serve on the east coast of Taiwan for 3 months. During that time, they will also be coming to The Aroma to serve alongside of us by hosting a big ministry event.

Younger Christians in our community are beginning to serve with great passion! We have a church intern, a student at a worship school, staff in the cafe, an administrative assistant, and so many other younger Christians that are deciding to give up their lives for the Gospel! Praise God for an amazing team of both Taiwanese and Westerners who are working together in Taiwan to bring the Gospel to Taiwan!

Our Envision interns (Jacob, Karissa, and Andrew) are spending their days developing relationships, helping to create a new website, leading events in the cafe, and rocking teaching tons of English!

We have recently held 4 Calligraphy classes hosted by one of our interns. Many people who don’t usually come to The Aroma attended the classes. Pray that these people will sense something different at The Aroma and want to come back to find out more!

Our new interns Karissa and Jacob led a great Pizza DIY class for Children’s Day. Many young families came out for the event. Please pray as we are considering how to reach out to younger families with younger kids! One of our Taiwanese mom’s at church is considering how she can be a part of reaching out to other young moms!

Chris led our church through a “healthy sexuality” course. This is something we face on a daily basis as many of our friends are new believers, and our church is located in a community that teaches anything BUT God’s plan for sex.

The Aroma said a final farewell (this side of heaven) to one of the very best mentors and father figures we could have ever asked for. Andy Houghton was like the grandfather of our entire ministry. Although not in Taiwan, he and his wife Fiona came often to visit and help impart their wisdom on us. Andy had battled cancer for the past 10+years. And although we greatly mourn his passing, we are so incredibly grateful for the years we had together.

Summers and Coffee

The summer is officially upon us! Both in temperatures and in the fact that we are planning our schedules around the many teams and interns that will soon be joining us in Taipei! Our first 3 interns of the year are already on the ground and are adjusting well to life here in Taiwan. Before you know it, they will be heading back to the States as their internship draws to a close and the next set of interns and teams take their place! Please pray for all of the teams and interns coming our way this summer!

Life has changed drastically for me as well since returning for home assignment in January. When I left Taiwan I was working mainly in the church. When I returned, the Aroma Cafe was in a state of complete change and needed new leadership. God had been clearly preparing me for this new task as I had just completed my MBA 2 years ago and 1 year ago I was finally able to get my permanent residency in Taiwan which provided me with an open work permit. Since the re-opening of the cafe in March, God has continued to provide me with a team of people who are able to help me as I learn what it means to run a coffee shop! Please pray for God's Wisdom as I continue to lead in this area!

Pray for my cafe team: Andrew, Jennifer, Joy, Cloud, Jamie, and Zion as we learn to work together and minister together! Pray that each of us will walk in humility and love for the people we serve!

Pray for Shelly, Jackie, Sam, and possibly others who want to be baptized on Easter!! Praise God for many turning to Jesus! Pray that more will come to know Jesus in this personal way!

Pray for our new interns: Jacob, Karissa, and Andrew as they learn what it means to live and serve in Taiwan. Pray that they will adapt quickly! Pray also for us as we gear up for all of our teams coming out soon! Our first summer team is here in a month!

Pray for physical health and spiritual protection. As we enter into this new season, we need physical health as well as spiritual protection. Pray that we can put on the armor of God daily, and that He will protect us from all attacks of the enemy!
