Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

Dear Praying Friends,
We arrived just a few days ago from Brazil and will be based out of Milwaukee, WI. You may recall that the North American Alliance (C&MA) is transitioning out of Brazil and our time serving there in this role has ended. We are extremely blessed to have served during these 21+ years. The Brazilian Alliance church will continue in their ministries there.
This year has been a year of blessing that flew by before we knew it. We want to mention a few highlights and share with you about a new opportunity that is arising for us to return to Brazil. We are very excited about this possibility. Please write us for more details if you are interested in hearing more from us.
Church Plant in Taboao – We are pleased to announce the birth of this new church. We started monthly services in January through May and then started weekly services in June. We are having an average of about 60 people in our services. We are so happy our colleagues Paul and Bev Clark have come back to this ministry in Taboao to continue to come a long side of our Brazilian pastor Marcelo and family in this ministry.
Small Group Ministry and baptisms: Our church started with a small group meeting in a tiny apartment. Today we have three groups with plans to start a fourth soon. We have 60 people attending our small group meetings. We celebrated the real fruit of this ministry with a baptism of 4 on June 28th. Many visitors attended the service and a luncheon that followed.
Our 25th Anniversary Celebration – Helen and I celebrated by inviting friends from all the churches we have been involved in starting and from Marriage Encounter. There were almost 200 at the event which had a touch of a Good-bye event and mostly a celebration of what God had done for us. We sang, confessed, received a message, and renewed our vows ending with a beautiful celebration of snacks and cake. We felt very loved by our friends!
We had many visits with friends before leaving Brazil. Many great opportunities to encourage and pray with friends during our visits made those times especially meaningful.
We are thankful for each gift, expression of love and prayers that have sustained us through our years of ministry with the C&MA. Thank you so much for your gifts to the GCF that has been the tool that enabled our lives to touch many in Brazil with the eternal hope in Christ.
Pray with us for the Brazilian Alliance Church as they are targeting to send a couple to Portugal as missionaries in 2010. Many challenges are before them but the faith and calling are clear.

Co-workers for Christ,
Doug and Helen White
Thanks for your gifts to the GCF especially!

2. Pray for Helen who will be on tour in Ohio, Doug will be on tour in Wisconsin.
3. Praise for the missions passion of the Brazilian Alliance Church, pray for the leadership as the plan toward the Portugal Project to have wisdom and faith in reaching that country with the message of Jesus.
4. Pray for the Marriage Encounter weekend that is scheduled for September 18th weekend. Pray that Christ's love and sacrifice will be known by couples attending the weekend, and that they will come to follow Christ in discipleship.
5. Pray for a better paying job for Marcos Alirio--preparing as a Pastor to serve in Rio de Janeiro-- to take off some of the financial strain so he will have more freedom for ministry.
