Typhoon Haiyan Update

Super Typhoon Haiyan

Most communications systems are still down throughout the Philippines, making it difficult to ascertain the extent of casualties and property damage among the Alliance family there.

On October 26, 2013, structures on the Philippine islands of Bohol, Cebu, and Leyte were damaged by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, forcing many residents out of their unfortified homes into makeshift tent communities. These three islands were in the direct path of Typhoon Haiyan, which decimated these tent communities. Early reports indicate a likelihood that some Alliance families in these communities were among the estimated 1,200 who reportedly perished in the typhoon. Authorities warn that the death toll could increase significantly as further assessments are made.

Please continue to pray for those who have suffered injury, loss of loved ones, and property damage as a result of this catastrophe. Pray that Alliance churches will find and seize opportunities to reach out to suffering and displaced people with tangible help and the hope only Jesus can provide.
