It was sad news the woman was sharing with me.
Denise, a dear Christian whom I had known since arriving here in 1980, had suffered a massive stroke. She was in a coma for two weeks and had died the day after I’d visited her in the hospital.
“Running the Race”
Just before her stroke, Denise told several friends about a dream she’d had. She described running with a crowd of people as fast as she could toward the Lord Jesus and getting to Him first!
Denise’s funeral was a celebration of a life well lived. It was recalled that this tall, godly woman had been in church “every time the door was open.” Respected for her great wisdom, Denise also had served as a judge in her village. Whenever there was a dispute, the village chief and Denise would listen to both sides of the argument and determine a ruling.
At the funeral service’s conclusion, rain fell over the church—after which a rainbow appeared. The congregation broke into a song of praise to God for His promise, thanking Him that Denise was safe in heaven with her Lord.
