Community Center Celebrates Five Years in Sarajevo

The Source, a community center in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina, operated by Alliance global staff, celebrated its fifth anniversary June 13. About 40 of the Source’s partners and clients, including one of its partner churches, gathered for a reception to commemorate the day.

“When I think about all that God has done and how in so many ways the influence of the center has far surpassed our expectations, I am overwhelmed and can do nothing but praise Him,” said Petula Myers, an Alliance worker at the Source.

The community center is a neutral space—a sort of public living room—for believers to build relationships with young professionals and young families from the area. Since 2010, the Source has become well known in Sarajevo for supporting continuing education and the arts by providing various seminars, English classes, cooking groups, a film festival, art exhibits, and more.

Interns from partner churches or other Alliance connections help make the ministry possible. So far, 20 interns ranging in age from 15 to 72 have come to assist with the one-on-one English conversation appointments and children’s programs as well as teach ESL (English as a second language) and graphic design classes.

Looking toward the next five years, Myers is excited to see what God will do through the contacts and relationships they’ve made at the Source, praying that even more people will come to Christ.
