Hurricane Irma Devastates Florida
On September 10, 2017, after tearing through the Caribbean, Hurricane Irma slammed into Florida as a category 4 storm, packing destructive winds in excess of 150 mph.
Two Alliance retirement centers experienced power outages, however the residents remained safe. Some homes suffered roof damage, and trees and fences fell. But, overall, the Lord kept the Alliance family from severe harm.

Recovery efforts by Alliance churches are focusing on repairing roofs that were damaged in the storms and reaching into affected communities to help those who suffered significant property loss or damage. In addition, with help from CAMA, the national church in Cuba has entered the second phase in their disaster recovery efforts to reach the most vulnerable in communities impacted by Irma. Using donations to the CAMA Relief Fund, 140 Alliance families are receiving food and will soon be given materials for rebuilding roofs. Other families will receive mattresses and cooking supplies.

The majority of Alliance churches in Florida have come away from Hurricane Irma with minimal damage. Many trees and fences have collapsed, and some roofs have lost shingles, but praise the Lord that He has kept Alliance family members safe through this catastrophic storm.
Though power outages made life challenging for our two retirement centers, Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers and the Alliance Community for Retirement Living (ACRL) in DeLand, the 2,700+ residents were kept safe and well cared for thanks to our Father’s watchful eye and the tireless efforts of the outstanding staffs at these two communities.
As they continue to celebrate God’s protection and provision, Alliance churches and volunteers are radiating Jesus’ love by reaching out to their neighbors and helping to rebuild their devastated communities.
