Prayer Letter/Ministry Update
Most of you know us quite well, but do you actually know what we are doing here in Mongolia? I have realized that our updates consist primarily of cultural tidbits, family happenings, and the occasional tangent of thought... but what about the work?! That is, after all, WHY we have been sent to Mongolia! Well it just so happens that over the last month or so I have been going over my goals for this next year. Actually, I have been setting goals together with my 3 Mongolian brothers - Dawaa, Saiknaa & Sansar - in the areas of our project work as well as our spiritual development.
I want to share these ministry goals with you for several reasons. First, because I want you to know of our courage and dedication, and share in our purposeful excitement for what we believe God can do in our communities this coming year. Second, I hope this will lead to more specific prayers on our behalf as we struggle with the overwhelming problems of spiritual and physical poverty. In fact, one of my hopes is that God's Spirit will lead some of you to directly encourage, challenge, or even advise in some of the various projects and church-planting we will be doing this year. If you have a moment then I'd ask you to even pause right here, before reading on, and sincerely ask God if and how He might want you to join with us in ministry. That done, my final reason for sharing our goals is to raise up more people who will physically partner with us this year (by coming to help with a short-term task or, being unable to come themselves, by sending resources (in various forms) to help us get the job done). For that reason I am including rough budget amounts in case some of you feel led to partner with us on a certain project...
GOAL #1: Our goal first and foremost is to plant churches...by which I mean reaching NEW people in APPROPRIATE ways and gathering them into Jesus' fellowships. We are currently working on "pre-evangelistic" materials which, instead of jumping right to Jesus and Salvation, help Mongolian seekers to develop categories for God (as relational and above His creation), Man (as a "defective" moral being), and the World (as temporary with eternal consequences). Without these concepts it is impossible to understand, much less feel the need, for a Savior. We hope to finish these lessons in January and plant 2 new house churches before Spring. [$600 for materials, not including Bibles]
GOAL #2: Train and equip 2 well-driving teams to drive 50 new water wells in Darhan and outlying towns. We are currently building the handpumps and training another welder. We will also be planning which towns to go to and developing a strategy for our teams to drive wells during the day and implement the above house churches in the evenings. [$150 per well, half of which we hope to subsidize, plus a project manager's salary for Saiknaa. 3750 + 1250 = $5000]
GOAL #3: Form a research team from local Darhan churches to examine cultural traditions and design a contextual Christian ceremony for weddings and funerals. This team will also need to address Christian rituals (like baptism and communion) as well as common folk beliefs (like reincarnation and lucky days). [$300 for materials and a project manager's salary for Sansar = $1500]
GOAL #4: Develop the current Relief Council to establish a clear Blizzard Response Plan increase local church involvement in regular monthly community outreach. Last month we had a clothes giveaway, this month we have Christmas and firewood distribution, and then comes the big White Moon celebration...not to mention regular requests for assistance. [currently working from our personal tithes]
GOAL #5: Prepare a process for selecting and training potential church-workers with bi-vocational skills (either through technical scholarships or our own skill workshops), develop materials to help them implement their own micro-enterprises (market research, business plan, accounting, etc.), and provide opportunities for business loans or equipment subsidies. [$600 for materials and a project manager's salary for Dawaa = $2100]
GOAL #6: Organize and expand the library resources for our leadership training center. This includes putting the books into a library system, obtaining new books in Mongolian and helping students to learn to find the answers and information they are looking for. [$800 for textbooks and $1000 for a computer = $1800]
Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer
Pray for our CAMA finances, especially because we are hoping to get more teammates (the Lains) this Fall. Please pray for our health and protection in a harsh climate. But most of all pray for our desire to honor the Lord and our boldness to proclaim His deeds as we serve the people of Mongolia and gather new disciples into fellowships.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
