Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your prayers and your letters of encouragement during the past few weeks. God accomplished more than I could ever have imagined. Praise His name!
Normally our Field Forum is a highlight of our year. It’s a great time for all the missionaries to be with each other. We share what God has done during the year and how He has been speaking to us. We pray together and play together. We discuss areas of concern and perhaps strategy for the coming year. This year seemed much more complicated than usual. We had to change the date, then we had to change the venue, our speaker’s plane was canceled, and finally the controversial presidential elections were to take place just at the time we were planning to meet. Since we were changing our meeting place this year I expected lots of delays and glitches but I was pleasantly surprised. The meals were good, the accommodations were more than adequate, and we had some great opportunities to share our faith with the people at our hotel. We were asked to stay within the hotel compound for two days after the elections. There were no complaints and we found plenty of activities to enjoy together. God is so good!
We received God’s word through Pastor Ralph Trainer, a former Gabon missionary and Field Director. Yes, we found another plane to bring him to Libreville! It was evident that God gave him messages which touched each heart. The most amazing thing that God did, however, was that His Spirit worked in our hearts to knit us together in love. Everyone experienced a real freedom to express their struggles. And as God opened our hearts to each other we were quick to stand with our colleagues in prayer. It was a wonderful time. God protected us and He did more than we ever imagined.
The presidential elections here in Gabon were peaceful. In the days following the announcement of the results there was violence which was quickly controlled by the forces of law and order. We now wait for the inauguration of the new president, who is the former president’s son, and we pray for continued peace and further development for the good of the Gabonese people.
And guess what? I had a flat tire on the way home! But there was a whole team to help me change it.
As I write this we are in the midst of a review of our Gabon field strategy. Each of us has been encouraged to seek God for how He might want to use us in the future. What are God’s priorities for the future? This is the second time we have evaluated and sought the Lord for His direction regarding decisions in personnel, finances, and overall strategy. Continue to pray that we would know God’s heart for this country and other parts of Africa that we might influence for the Gospel’s sake.
Other prayer requests:
1. Nursing School classes are starting this week. Pray for the courses I will be teaching in Community Health care and the Spirit-filled life.
2. Village ministry in Doussala as we work towards finalizing a piece of property and determining how we can at least build a hanger to provide shelter.
3. Preparation for leaving on home assignment and tour ministry which will start in January, 2010
God bless you as you start into your fall activities and I pray that you would also be sensitive to know God’s priorities for your life.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.
Give.
You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
