Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

July 2009
Nine men from Paradise Alliance Church in Paradise, California arrived in Paraguay in July and immediately began work: removing two large, very solidly built brick cold storage rooms, bricking-in windows and doors, opening a new doorway and baptismal area, and constructing a concrete platform for the front of the church. They had originally been slated for another church construction project here in Paraguay but that fell through just as our church acquired the new building needing modifications. God’s timing is always perfect! There was a tremendous response when the men also shared their testimonies in cell groups, worship services and at an outreach program at a nearby Catholic school. We provided some of the logistical services needed by the team.
Seven people from Almaden Neighborhood Church in San Jose, California made significant alterations to the entry of the Alliance church in downtown Asuncion, making it much more visitor-friendly. They also conducted an all-day kids’ festival that drew a great response from the community. We were privileged to have the four ladies in the group stay in our home while they were in Paraguay.
Bob and Joy Brougher also arrived in Asuncion, Paraguay’s capital in July to assume the role of field director. Bob and Joy previously served in Peru and Venezuela. They bring a wealth of experience as well as excellent Spanish communication skills.

The last few weeks have seen the culmination of the principal ministry of our time so far in Paraguay. Twenty-one people have completed their two-year course of study using the Spanish version of the same books used in the Basic Training Course of the Christian Leadership Academy in Alliance churches in the United States. An additional twelve students are at the half-way mark in the program. We thank God for the opportunity to share Bible understanding and ministry skills with these eager and dedicated followers of our Lord! In Novemder we had a banquet at the church to encourage the students to put into practice in church ministries the many things they have been learning. Pastor Bernardini shared the many different avenues of service needed in the church, especially in working with the cell groups.
In November and December our church celebrated the baptism of 18 people and heard their testimonies of new-found faith in Jesus Christ. Each one has gone through a six-week course laying the foundation for living the victorious Christian life. What a joy it is when people come to know the Savior and commit to following Him “through thick and thin”.
Caleb, 19, has enjoyed his first semester at Nyack College and has made many great friends on campus. He is with us over the Christmas holiday. Carol, 25, continues to enjoy her work with children in Harrisburg, PA. Becki, 32, with her husband Matt Beack and boys Isaiah and Elijah are preparing for future ministry with street children in Manila with Action International. Matt recently reduced his hours at work so they will have more time to share their vision in a personal way.
Thank you for standing with us in prayer and in giving to the Great Commission Fund. It is through these sacrificial gifts that we are able to minister in here in Paraguay. For information on giving you can email us or check out www.cmalliance.org.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.
Give.
You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
