June 29 Bruce and Sylvia Harmon flew from the USA to Asuncin, Paraguay.
Having arrived in Paraguay we’ve been assigned to work with US missionaries Forest and Sarah Schell and Paraguayans Rodrigo and Patricia Souberlich in planting the Mi Esperanza (My Hope) Church.
The Schells laid the groundwork for the congregation by developing personal contacts through offering English lessons, holding cooking classes and beginning an AWANA Club outreach with help from one of the already-established Alliance churches in the Asuncin area. First worship services were begun a bit over two years ago. John and Lisa Sappia and Bob and Joy Brougher also worked hard in the fledgling church. Follow-up of the parents of the kids attending AWANA has probably been the most fruitful evangelistic ministry.
Our first two weeks in Paraguay have been mostly given to searching for a house to rent as near as possible to the target area and beginning to get to know the people who are being reached through this work.
After years of study, preparation, prayer and fund raising our daughter Becki, her husband Matt Beack and sons Isaiah and Elijah departed in February for missionary service in Manila, Philippines with another mission organization. They are currently studying the national language, Tagalog (tah-GAH-lohg) and will be working with children in crisis, especially the street kids.
Our daughter Carol continues as a TSS in a nearby school and will be moving to the Elizabethtown area where members of our home church there have offered her a room in their home. Her usual pleasant attitude is now positively radiant with a romantic interest in her life. David Crick is a member of our church in Elizabethtown and loves the Lord deeply. He is currently waiting for a visa to go to Israel for a year to work in our Alliance guest home in Jerusalem.
Our son Caleb will be working with the local YMCA as a playground supervisor for the month of July. In early August he returns to Emmanuel College in Georgia where he’ll be serving as a Resident Assistant during his junior year. He is now expressing real interest in missions as his life’s-work.
Thank you for standing with us in prayer and in giving to the Great Commission Fund. It is through these sacrificial gifts that we are able to minister here in Paraguay. You can give by clicking the appropriate box to the right.

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—in our denomination, in our churches, and in our individual lives.
Give.
You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This central funding vehicle allows our international workers to focus on ministry rather than raising financial support.
