Hull’s Update – March 2010
Home Assignment, Deltona, FL

News from Burkina: The Alliance Women of the Burkina National Church worked in several villages in the Kenedougou region this year during their annual evangelism campaign. Many people came to faith in Christ for the first time as a result of their efforts. The pastors in the region are especially encouraged as several Fula people were among the new believers. The Church is growing!

Hulls Update January 2010

C&MA missionaries serving in Burkina Faso, West Africa, currently on home assignment in Deltona, FL

Home for the Holidays!

Our family enjoyed the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We were able to spend much time with our parents and family. Highlights included seeing Handels Messiah, church presentations, going to Epcot, and even seeing an Orlando Magic game. Kenna, Colby, Laura, and Lucas really enjoyed playing with all their cousins. We surely are blessed to be with family this year.
Our most treasured moment during the Christmas break was seeing Kenna and Colby follow the Lord by being baptized on January 3.

Praise the Lord for good health
Many have asked about Tobys health since his early departure from Burkina Faso last spring. He has been given a clean bill of health by the cardiologist. We both have enjoyed working out at the YMCA, hoping to be in good shape for our return to Burkina Faso next summer

Praise the Lord for a good Fall Tour!
Toby enjoyed speaking in various churches in southern California and Arizona this past fall. His welcome by the South Pacific District even included sightseeing trips to Sedona and to the Grand Canyon! Kiersten stayed in Florida with the children. She was privileged to speak at some Alliance Womens rallies and local churches.
Toby finished his Fall Tour with speaking opportunities in the Vietnamese District churches located in San Diego, CA; Austin, TX; Philadelphia, PA; and Orlando, FL. A highlight of the tour was seeing several youth giving their lives to Christ at a youth rally in Philadelphia.

Keep praying for the work in Burkina Faso!
There has been some opposition to the work we are part of in the region of Kenedougou. Some of the pagan village spiritual leaders have seen the growth of the church and are trying to figure out ways to stop its advancement. Pray for protection for the church and especially the pastors and church leaders. Claim the promise of Matthew 16:18 where Jesus says, I will build My church and the gates of hell will not overcome it.

Pray for Tour!
Pray for Toby as he continues with tour this winter and spring. He will be speaking in the Southeastern district from January 10 to March 28. Here is his speaking schedule:
January 10 Winter Springs
January 17-20 First Alliance Orlando
January 24-31 Jacksonville and Hilliard
January 31-Feb 1 Deland (Alliance Community)
February 2-3 Ormond Beach
February 4-6 Deltona Faith Bible
February 7 Oviedo
February 7-10 Port St John and Merritt Island
February 11-14 Vero Beach and Ft Pierce
February 14-17 Stuart and Belle Glade
February 18-21 West Palm Beach
February 28 North Port Charlotte
March 7-28 Haitian Church Association

Packing Begins in Earnest!
Now that the calendar changed to 2010, we must begin to shop and pack for our return to Burkina Faso. Packing an outfit for a family of six is no small task. We will be bringing clothes for all 4 children, toiletries, presents for birthdays and Christmases, some ministry supplies and some household goods. Please pray for wisdom as we plan and pack. Pray also for good sales and prices on the items we need to purchase. If you would like to contribute financially to our outfit fund as we pack and prepare to return to Burkina, checks can be made payable to the C&MA with Hulls Outfit clearly written on the memo line.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR MINISTRY IN BURKINA FASO THROUGH THE GREAT COMMISSION FUND. We look forward to connecting with more of you in the next few months.

Hulls Update June 2009

Summer vacation
Kenna, Colby, and Laura finished the school year in Florida with great success. We enjoyed a family vacation last week in Virginia, Georgia, and South Carolina. The kids especially liked the Washington Monument and the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, the American Girl Store in Atlanta, and passing the swimming test at the camp in South Carolina so they could use the water slide! It was great to do some sightseeing and to see family and friends.

Break-in
Unfortunately, while we were away, our house in Deltona was robbed. The police actually found some of our stolen belongings in the trunk of a car when they caught a man robbing a different house. The deputy called my parents to inform them of the break-in. My parents were home and quickly came to our house to file reports for what was missing. The thieves broke a window to enter and stole electronic equipment and jewelry boxes. We are very thankful that they did not vandalize our house. The police have already returned some of the stolen items and the main perpetrator has been arrested. Although this could never be a pleasant experience, we praise the Lord for protection and peace. It could have been a lot worse than it was. We hope that our personal items will be recovered, especially jewelry with sentimental value. Pray with us that this will not happen again.

Speaking!
Toby is the missionary speaker this week at Power Camp in South Carolina, the South Atlantic Districts children and youth camp. Pray that he will speak effectively and that they Holy Spirit will draw these children and teens to Himself.
Next week, June 23-26, Toby is speaking at the Cambodian District conference in California.
During the months of July and August, we have various other speaking engagements at area C&MA churches.
Please pray that we will be faithful ministers of the Truth whenever we speak and that God will use our experiences in Burkina Faso to encourage others to be more committed to their Christian walk.

As always, we thank you for partnering with us. We hope to see many of you during home assignment.
We appreciate your continued faithfulness, even as we are in the US this year, to the Great Commission Fund and to our work special projects. Our ongoing support is through the GCF. Projects and ministries in Burkina Faso continue while we are away. Our work special account enables us to continue to help the national church while we are in the USA. The address for the CMA is PO Box 35000, Colorado Springs, CO 80935. Donations can also be made securely online at www.cmalliance.org.

Thank you

Hulls Update V March/April 2009
Greetings fromK. Deltona, Florida!

For some of you, this comes as a surprise that we are already in the USA starting our home assignment. We apologize for the delay in communications, as it has taken us a while to get settled and to get our internet and email connections started again.
We left Burkina Faso earlier than planned, as Toby was experiencing some chest pains and other troubling symptoms. After seeing a cardiologist in Burkina Faso, we were advised to return to the States as soon as possible to undergo a more thorough examination. We arrived in Florida on March 3.
Toby has done several tests and is taking medications which help his blood flow to the heart. He is still under the care of the cardiologist until the cause of his symptoms can be determined. He is doing fine and we are awaiting the final diagnosis from the doctor.
Things in Burkina Faso continue to be busy and exciting. The Obergs are finishing well with the final evangelism event and the youth team from Salem, Oregon. We are so thankful for our missionary team members who continue to work and to pick up the slack when we had to leave unexpectedly.
Here in Florida we are getting settled into our home assignment year. Doctor visits have taken up some of our time, but weve enjoyed time with family and friends, as well. Kenna, Colby, and Laura have started school again here in Florida. They are all happy in their classes and doing well. Although starting a new school during the year is not easy, we are glad that the children are adjusting well. Finishing this school year in the US will give them the experience of an English curriculum which will help them next year. We hope to find a French tutor to work with them so they can keep up their level of French as well.
We look forward to connecting with many of you during our home assignment. Toby will do a tour of C&MA churches in the fall and spring. We will also have other opportunities to connect with churches in our area and district.
Thank you for your continued prayers. Please pray for:
- Tobys health issues to be resolved quickly
- Kenna and Colby in public school (4th and 1st grades); Laura in K-3
- Our colleagues in Burkina Faso as they finish this term and leave for the US in May and June

Hulls Update- Evangelism Season 2009

Evangelism Highlights in Kenedougou
We now have our first believers in Djengenebougou . Actually, there have been believers living in this village for 14 years. They moved to this area to farm and began meeting together for worship in 1994. However, no one who had been born and raised in Djengeneobougou had ever accepted Christ. The village is small, not even 500 people, but it has 6 mosques. Well, this past month we saw several trust in Jesus. Already they are being told to recant their faith. Please praise God for these new believers. Please pray that they would remain faithful and not recant.
The village of Sirasso is very similar to Djengenebougou. The only believers in this village are those who have moved from elsewhere to farm the land. We have seen many accept the Lord in the surrounding villages, but none in Sirasso. We held our evangelism seminar here this past week and entered the village to proclaim the goodnews. Still none trusted in Christ. One night after an evangelistic film we invited the crowd to respond. We overheard people saying I cant, Im afraid. Please pray for the villagers of Sirasso to overcome this fear and accept Jesus.
This week we will go to the villages of Temetemeso , Nemberela, and Nongorgerela (these names are even hard for us to pronounce). In each of these villages we have already seen people accept and follow Christ. In fact, we have nearly 100 believers in Temetemso (a village of nearly 15,000 people). Pray that we will see much fruit.
We praise the Lord for providing 2 new pastors in the Kenedougou region and even replacing the pastor who passed away last October. Pray that these new pastors will transition well as they plan to move to their new ministries shortly. Pray that they will have fruitful ministries.
Evangelism Highlights in Lereba
In the village of Sarakanjala we had 8 receive Christ. This is a brand new area for us to work in and it was a great blessing to see people already willing to follow the Jesus road.
In the Turka village of Tourni there were also 8 who received Christ. We really sensed Gods hand in this village. The government has placed a Christian nurse and teacher in this village. They both understand the Christian faith well and we pray that God will use them to disciple these new believers. We also had a neat conversation with the village chief. Normally we give a small gift to the chief to express our gratitude for allowing us to come the his village. When we offered him the gift he didnt want to accept it. He then said your words (the gospel) that you have brought to my village are already too much of a gift for me to give thanks for.
We also evangelized in the villages of Sobara and Niangolo. In Sobara we were able to dedicate to the Lord their new church building. The church was packed with government officials and other guest. Pray that this church is a true light to their village. Niangolo was the last village we went to in the region of Lereba. There is only one believer. He has remained faithful to Christ for 3 years now despite being all alone in the faith. This village is extremely poor. I saw a lot of poverty and sickness. However, every time I enter this village I always receive gifts- this year they gave a sack of sweet potatoes and a duck. Last year they gave us 3 guinea hens. This village also provides land to the pastor to farm, and they even help with the work to express their gratitude for him teaching their young people how to read.
Spiritual Warfare
This year of evangelism has already been different in that we have encountered quite a bit of demonic activity. On the way to do one of our evangelism seminars we stopped in a village to pick up a pastor. In his church there was a young lady named Neema who was being tormented by demons. She professes to be a Christian, but somehow these demons took over her. For over a week Neema could not talk- only the demons spoke through her mouth. They refused to leave. This lady couldnt eat, drink, or even nurse her baby. Through much prayer, fasting, and the Word of God Neema has been delivered to where she is in her right mind- she is very weak- and at times demons manifest themselves even now. Please pray for complete deliverance for Neema.
Also during our evangelism in the Senefou village of Sarakanjala another young girl came to us for prayer. She was being tormented by demons. She had just claimed Jesus as Savior, but due to her involvement in witchcraft there was demonic activity in her life. She was miserable, laying on the ground screaming in pain. But I am pleased to report that the day we left the village she was in her right mind and even helped serve us breakfast.

Please continue to pray for us. We cant do our work without you!

Hulls UpdateXDecember 2008
Evangelism Season is Underway!
These are the dry season months in Burkina Faso when the people are not as busy in their fields. It is harvest time.
These are the months when Toby travels to villages for evangelism campaigns. He and Kevin Oberg will be traveling almost every week for the next 4 months. They are teaching an evangelism seminar in each of the six main churches in the Kenedougou region. After the evangelism seminar, they will spend another week in surrounding villages showing the Jesus Film and holding outreach meetings.
Last week was the seminar in Banzon. After teaching on the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son found in Luke 15, the church saw first-hand what is was like to seek someone who was lost. A little, three-year old boy wandered away from the church and was lost. His mother searched for him. The women in the church searched for him. Soon they called the men who also searched. They called the town crier to go around and announce that a child was lost. Kevin and Toby looked in old holes and abandoned wells in the area. The villagers searched. The believers prayed.
Almost 3 hours later, a herdsmen tending his cows heard a child crying in the woods almost a mile from the village. He brought the boy back to the village, where someone else brought him to the church. There was great rejoicing when little Baba was reunited with his mother. The son who was lost, was found.
What a poignant example of Jesus parable. He is seeking those who are lost. He wants them to find salvation through faith. We need to search for them and bring them home.
Will you pray that many people will come to faith in Jesus during these next four months? Will you pray that the believers in the churches will be motivated to live out their Christian faith throughout the year? Will you pray that there will be a great harvest in these villages this year? Will you pray that many lost people will be found?
Thank you.
Serving in Burkina Faso,
Toby and Kiersten Hull, Kenna, Colby, Laura, and Lucas

Hulls UpdateXNovember 2008
Badara teaching trips:
It has been a joy to encourage the Badara church during the past six weeks with Bible study and evangelism training. Kiersten has been teaching the women using our Patience lessons. Toby has been working with the men doing some evangelism training. The men go to the market and talk with their neighbors about salvation. It has been great to see their enthusiasm for sharing their faith and studying the Bible. The church has decided to get a stand at the market where they can set up a dialogue point using the Bible storying pictures. Pray that this church will truly begin a missionary outreach in their village.

Lereba region trip:
We traveled as a family to Dakoro in the Lereba region for three days in October. At the Sobara church, we worshipped with new believers from the village of Kawolo, including the newlyweds from the wedding last May (June 08 update). This young couple walks 11 kilometers to church on Sunday in Sobara. The believers enjoy fellowhip on Sunday afternoons while listening to the Bible in Jula on cassette. Many of these new believers are memorizing large portions of Scripture just by the repetition of listening to the tapes.
The six pastors of the Lereba region met to discuss plans for the upcoming evangelism season. They shared testimonies of Gods work in their churches. Every pastor had a story of people coming to faith in Jesus during the past few months. They also recounted how they have been using the chronological storying in their ministries (April/May updates). In Kankalaba, 3 people accepted Christ after hearing the Old Testament stories told by the pastor. Pray for these pastors who work in a difficult area. Pray that they will remain faithful to Gods call on their lives and that the Lord would provide all their needs. (see photo of Lereba pastors)

Ndorola Church Building:
The little church building at Ndorola is overflowing, but a new church is under construction! The walls are up and the roof will be put on this week. The Ndorola church is growing and we are thrilled to be a part of this exciting group. Pray that they will increase in number and in their faith. Pray for Pastor Samuel and Elisabeth as they lead these new believers. THANK YOU to those who contribute to our work special for projects such as church construction! (see the attached photo of the new building in its early stages)
The homegoing of Pastor Marcel:
You have been praying for the Sirasso pastor, Marcel, who was suffering with cancer. The Lord took him home to heaven on Sunday, October 26. Although this is a very hard time for his wife, Suzanne, their children, and the believers of the church, we know that Pastor Marcel is with Jesus. Please pray for those who will miss him dearly on this earth. Pray for the ministry in Sirasso and for the believers to stand firm in their faith. Pray that many others will come to Christ in Sirasso.

Alliance Womens Sunday 2008:
Each year the Alliance Womens groups celebrate a special Sunday in all of the Burkina Faso churches. It was a privilege for Kiersten to speak at the Ndorola church, where it was standing room only in the small building. We enjoyed a joyful service, a good meal, and fellowship afterwards. The church people invited friends and family from the area. Some womens unbelieving husbands were also in attendance for the event. After the service, one young man who was invited by his friends, decided to put his trust in Jesus for salvation. The pastor spent time praying with believers and others after the service. It was a great day of community and joy at the Ndorola church. (see picture of the Ndorola congregation)

Hulls Update- October 2008

Burkina Faso National Alliance Church:
The Alliance pastors in Burkina Faso enjoyed the National Pastors Conference held last month in Bobo-Dioulasso. The total of CMA pastors in Burkina Faso reaches almost 500! Pray for these pastors and their churches and districts. Pray for a true spirit of evangelism to the many unreached villages and regions which still remain in Burkina Faso.

The first National Widows Conference is scheduled this week! Pray that this conference is a success and a blessing to the widows in our districts all over Burkina Faso.

Womens Sunday is November 2. Pray for the Alliance Womens groups as they lead the services on that day. Pray that the womens testimonies will draw many people to faith in Jesus. Kiersten will be speaking at the NDorola church.

Kenedougou Region:
Toby and Kevin met with the Kenedougou region pastors to plan their evangelism schedules for this year. They will also incorporate discipleship and evangelism training for the believers during the evangelism outreaches. Pray for the preparations in each village and the preparations of the believers and churches. Pray that the pastors and believers will be pure and worthy examples of disciples of Christ so many new people will want to follow the Jesus Way.

Continue to pray for Pastor Marcel in Sirasso who continues to suffer from cancer. Pastor Marcel is not doing well and is in pain. Please pray for his wife, Suzanne, as she cares for him, and for his children

Sakaby:
The cement flooring is finished at Sakaby. The monthly Sunday morning services continue with new people coming every month. This week there were two new believers. Pray for the church members as they witness to their neighbors and invite them to church. Pray for the new believers as they join in the group.

Teaching Ministries:
The womens lesson books on patience are finished! The lessons are all written and it is in the process of being printed. Pray that these lessons will encourage the women who study them as we look at the theme of Patience, A Gift of the Holy Spirit. (see photo of one womens group leader teaching her AW group)

Kiersten is teaching in two local churches each week this month. Pray that these womens groups will be encouraged in their faith and walk with the Lord.

Toby and Kiersten both teach at the Badara church, a village about 45 minutes from Bobo, each Friday afternoon. Pray that men and women will grow in their faith and that our time with them will be a boost to this small church. The first Friday we had about 30 adults come for the Bible studies! We are encouraged by their interest and hunger for the Word of God.

We were also encouraged when we attended the Badara church last month and the Sunday School children all stood and recited their memory verses from the book of Acts! They quoted large portions of Acts 2 and 3. It was a blessing and an encouragement! Pray for them as they continue to study Acts, and then as they move on to the new lessons on the Old Testament. (see photo of Badara Sunday school children)

Thank you!

Hulls Update- September 2008
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Here are some things for which we praise the Lord this month:

P A good time at Field Forum in Ouagadougou for our missionary team! The children enjoyed a special VBS program and the adults enjoyed the ministry of Tom and Gwen Lundeen from MN.
P French school started this week! Kenna is in 4th grade and Colby is in 1st grade. Laura, also, started in preschool at the French school. We are thankful for the school and for how well our children have adjusted to learning in French and for their academic progress.
P The childrens lesson books are finished! Production is underway for 200 copies of these lesson books covering basic Old Testament stories.
P The women of Sakaby were encouraged with gifts from a church in Florida and a special meeting with our missionary nurse. It was a great morning as the ladies at Sakaby read notes from women in the USA translated into Jula and opened their small gifts. Peggy Drake, our CMA colleague, encouraged the women with Scripture and a meditation in the Bobo language. Thank you to the church who contributed and for your continued prayers for the women who believe in Jesus at Sakaby.
P Good reports are coming from the Lereba region. The pastor at Douna reports 11 new people who have become believers in the past few months at their church.
P Our family had a good trip to Banzon (a village in the Kenedougou region) on Sunday. The believers there are thankful for the good rains they are having this year. The rains also cause some interesting driving with all the mud- thank the Lord for our Land Cruiser and for safe travels.

Here are some things to pray about:
P Pray for Pastor Marcel at Sirasso who has cancer.
P Pray for the preparations for our National Pastors Conference to be held Sept 15-20.
P Pray for the production of the womens curriculum (including 35 Bible study guides) on the subject of patience. Esther Schaeffer and Kiersten hope to have this material finished and 100 copies published before the end of September.
P Pray for Toby as he continues the Bible study at Sakaby with young men at Jean-Renees courtyard.

Here are some needs to consider:
P The Great Commission Fund V Contributions to the Great Commission Fund through a local CMA church, or through the CMA office in Colorado Springs support the work of the Alliance worldwide. Our monthly salary and living expenses are supplied from this account. You can contribute to the GCF specifically for our support by labeling your check Hulls Support
P Work Special AccountXOther contributions for our ministry expenses can be made through the CMA specifially for Hulls Work Special. These funds are necessary for us to carry out our ministry here. They cover everything from building projects, printing of curriculum, aid to pastors and believers, communications expenses, mileage expenses, and help for the needy. If you would like to give to our work special account for a specific project, you can designate your gift accordingly. The following list gives you an idea of how we will be using some of our work special funds:
o Church building in Ndorola- $5000
o Production of childrens lesson books and pictures-- $1400
o Production of womens curriculum-- $500
o Concrete flooring for the meeting place at Sakaby-- $250

Hulls Update- Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso August 2008

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?
This week a very powerful chief died here in Bobo-Dioulasso. This man was a primary Chief of Traditional Customs among the Bobo people. His funeral on Sunday is preceded this week by days of festivities and official greetings by delegations from all over the city. There are people all over town covered in leaves and bushes wearing masks and carrying sticks and whips. Kiersten was shopping with Kenna and Laura in town when we saw more than ten masks. People on the street fled into doorways and shops as the masks passed with their whips. The fear is tangible and the darkness is palpable. The masks are physical representations of evil, spiritual powers.
Toby went to greet the family of the deceased chief, as we know a few people related to him. While at the familys house, Toby was shown a picture of the dead body of the chief. Then, he was asked to pay money as a gift for the family for having shown him the picture. This man was a highly revered fetish practitioner. People were awed and scared of him.
Although this chief was very powerful in his life, in his death he has nothing but eternal destruction. What a sad thing. So many people here in Bobo-Dioulasso are lost in this same darkness that deceives them. We are reminded again of the darkness that covers these people without Christ.
Jesus came to rescue them from evil and from death. Pray with us that many, many people will come to know Jesus in this city and will be saved from the enemy of their souls.

Quick Updates and Prayer Request:

The Salem Youth Teams visit was a great success! They painted and delivered benches to nine village churches. They also did a Bible Club here in Bobo that was attended by more than 800 children! Pray that these children will understand more about Jesus and some will come to Sunday school.

Pastor Marcel at Sirasso: Pray for healing for the pastor of the Sirasso church. He has been diagnosed with inoperable bladder cancer. Many around the world are praying for a miraculous healing. We praise God that our prayers are working as last week Marcel experienced signs of improvement. Pray with us for complete healing!

Childrens Lessons on Old Testament: Esther Schaeffer and Kiersten are working on lessons for a childrens curriculum on the Old Testament. We have 40 lessons and pictures. Pray for the production of these lessons and that the curriculum will be a useful tool for the churches.

Ndorola church construction: Pray for the upcoming construction of a church building in Ndorola. This is one of our main churches in the Kenedougou region and we are already seeing much fruit in this area. A church building is urgently needed for this community of believers. Pray that the necessary funds (approximately $10,000) for this project will be donated.

Summer Vacation and Field Forum: The month of August tends to be a little slower, as people are busy in their fields and not available for other kinds of activities. Our children are off of school on vacation. We will be going to Ouagadougou for our missionary field forum at the end of the month. Pray that we will have some time to relax this month before school and other activities start in September.

Thank you for your continued prayers for us and for our ministry.

Hulls Update- July 2008
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

The Moses Lake Teams Trip was great!
8 youth and 2 adults from the Moses Lake, WA church spent almost 2 weeks here in Burkina Faso. They painted a pastors new house, painted a new church building, visited children at a local Compassion International center, and experience a little of life and missions here. They were a very well prepared and motivated group. Pray that this trip will have a lasting impact on their lives as they seek Gods will for their futures.

Coming Soon- The Salem Youth Team
We will be hosting the Salem Alliance youth group team for two weeks at the end of July. During their time in Burkina they will travel to villages in the Kenedougou region where they will build and deliver benches, paint church signs, and visit with groups of new believers and pastors. In Bobo-Dioulasso, we will hold a three-day Bible club in a familys yard located near a market. We are preparing for approximately 300 kids to attend! The Salem team will also see some local tourist sights. Pray for our preparations for this team and for their time here. Pray for good health for each team member. Pray that the ministries they do during their time here will have lasting impact for the Kingdom of God.

Bible Clubs at Local Churches
This summer we are doing Bible Clubs for children at 5 local churches, 4 days each week. Global Ventures interns, Miele and Emily, along with Paul, David, and Stephen Schaeffer, teach a Bible lesson to the children, practice memory verses, sing songs, and play outdoor games each afternoon. Last week at the St Etienne church there were 25 children who attended the first day of club, but at the end of the week there were 89! This week we are off to a good start at the Kua church with about 40 kids coming for Bible club. Next week we will be in two villages outside of Bobo, Badara and Peni. Pray that these Bible clubs will plant seeds of the Gospel in the hearts of children who do not normally attend church. Pray that many of these children will accept Jesus as their Savior and will be allowed to attend Sunday school.

A New Pastor for Samoroguan!
The Samoroguan church has a pastor! Yesterday, Kevin and Toby moved Pastor Fidele and his wife to their new home in Samoroguan. Fidele graduated at the top of his class at Marantha Bible Institute this past May. Pray for Fidele as he begins this new ministry assignment. Pray that he will have a good testimony and quickly become involved in the life of the village. Pray for the group of believers in Samoroguan as they welcome their first pastor. Pray that many more people will come to Christ as a result of Fideles ministry in the Kenedougou region.

Rainy Season Planting Begins
The summer months are the rainy time here in Burkina. Farmers everywhere are preparing their fields and planting their crops. Last years grain supply is dwindling and prices are rising. Pray that people will be able to buy enough food to last them until the harvest. Pray that the rains will continue so that the crops will be abundant.

Kenna is Turning 9!
Our beautiful daughter, Kenna, is celebrating her ninth birthday this month! Kenna just completed 3rd grade at the French school here in Bobo, as well as working through English schoolbooks in math and grammar. She is an excellent student who works very hard. She is becoming more and more responsible and is a big help with her younger siblings. She likes to watch videos, check out new things on some internet sites, ride her bike, and play with her friends. We are so thankful for this wonderful girl! Pray for Kenna as she grows and matures during this year. Pray that she will continue to be grounded in her faith and understand more about walking with Jesus.

Thank you for your partnership with us, your encouragement, and your support of our ministry.

Hulls Update- JUNE 2008
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Updates from May:

Pastors Wives conference

160 pastors wives attended the National Pastors Wives Conference at Poundou in May! They enjoyed singing, listening to some speakers, door-to-door evangelism opportunities, and spending time in prayer. Thank you for those who contributed to the scholarships we were able to supply for our district pastors wives and those in the missionary areas of Burkina. (See attached photo)

Kenedougou Ministry

The month of May began with 4 days of evangelism in the Kenedougou region. In the village of Subagadougou the village chief was the first to accept the Lord. Nearly 50 others indicated that they, too, are interested in trusting and following Christ. The village chief wants to start having worship services in his courtyard. Francois Same, a CMA pastor, and a group of young people have been following up on these decisions This past Saturday they spent the entire night in the village. Please pray for this village, the new believers, and the chief. The chief is under tremendous pressure to recant his faith in Christ.

Senefou Ministry in Lereba/Banfora district

Daouda and Bintu were married in Douna on May 17. Many people from the village as well as believers from other churches in the area filled the church for the ceremony. The couple will be residing in Kawolo. Pray for the small group of believers in Kawolo, for the families of Daouda and Bintu who do not yet believe, and for Pastor Joachim and Marthe as they commute to Kawolo for services and reading classes. (See attached photo)

While we were in the village for the wedding, we also participated in two baptism services, one for three new believers in the Sobara church and then 6 new believers from Dakoro. We rejoice with these who have chosen to follow Jesus in baptism and proclaim their newfound faith.

One man, Youssuf, from Dakoro was baptized. Youssuf was tormented by evil spirits and had severe insomnia. He was considered a crazy man as he was often incoherent and acted out in strange ways. His father, an old man of the other main religion, saw the Jesus Film when it was shown in Dakoro. He saw how Jesus healed many people, including the demon possessed. He brought Youssuf to the pastor and said, If Jesus can heal those people, perhaps He can help my son. The pastor met with Youssuf and prayed with him and for him over a period of months. Eventually Youssuf trusted in Christ. Now, he is freed from the spirits that were bothering him and he is normal! Youd never know that he was the village crazy man. He is certainly a changed person. His two wives and nine children are now following Christ and are involved in the Dakoro church. What a boost to the churchs Sunday school!

Please pray for the new believers in the Senefou area. Pray for the pastors and the churches as they continue to disciple those who have recently made decisions to follow Christ. Pray for more pastors to be assigned to this area, for the financial needs to be met in each of their ministries, and for protection for the pastors families.

Bobo Ministries

We have begun a new Bible study in Sakaby in the courtyard of Jean-Renee. Jean-Renee, a young man who accepted Christ and was baptized a few years ago, has invited about 15 of his friends to meet on Thursdays to study the Bible. Toby, along with Timothy, the converted chief, leads the group as they study the Old Testament stories. The young men who gather are very interested in learning the Truth. Pray that they will understand the Bible and learn to believe in Jesus as their Savior. Pray for Toby as he leads this study throughout the month of June.

The church has finally been given a Green Light to meet in the village of Suleweni for a Bible study. (We talked about the opposition in Suleweni in our Jan 2008 update.) Pray for the Dogona church as they pursue this opportunity for evangelism.

Summer is here and Teams are coming!

Our Bobo missionary team has the privilege of hosting some youth teams this summer coming from the Salem Alliance Church, OR and also from the Moses Lake Alliance Church, WA. There are also two young women coming with the C&MAs Global Ventures program who will be in Bobo for six weeks. Please pray that these teams will have a great time in Burkina Faso, that they will stay healthy, and that they will be a blessing to the national church. Above all, pray that the Lord will reveal His will to each of them and that they will understand what Gods heart for the lost.

We will give you more information during the summer on the teams and our ministry with them.

Thank you for partnering with us. We appreciate your faithful support.

Hulls Update
May 2008
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Updates from April:
The Storying Seminar was a big success. The pastors who attended the 3-day meetings were encouraged in their efforts of evangelism and discipleship. They received some chronological story pictures and other evangelism tools to help in their ministries. THANK YOU to those who faithfully contribute to our work special account that makes these events possible!

The evangelism trip to Jengenebougou last weekend also went well. Ten new people came to faith in Christ over the four nights. The group of believers at Jengenebougou was encouraged to increase their efforts to reach out to the local villagers with the truth of the Gospel.

News for May:
Toby and Kevin will spend four nights in the Banzon area this week. Pray for a good response to the Gospel and for their safety in travel. Pray for the pastor and church leaders of Banzon as they reach out to nearby villages and follow-up new believers.

The National Pastors Wives Conference will be held at Poundou from May 6-10. Pray that all of our Burkina pastors' wives will be able to attend. Pray that they will be encouraged in their ministries and refreshed in their spirits. THANK YOU to those of you who have already sent funds to help pay for some of these pastors wives to attend the conference!

Our family will be attending a wedding of some new believers in Douna on May 17. The groom is Senefou and the bride is Turka. Both of these people groups have been focuses of our evangelism efforts over the past few years. Pray that this wedding will be testimony to the villagers in Douna and that more people will come to faith in Jesus. Pray for the couple as they seek to build their new life together as a Christian family.

Great Commission Sunday May 2008
During May, people in Alliance churches across the United States will participate in the Great Commission Sunday offering. As you know, the Great Commission Fund keeps us in our country doing the wonderful ministry God has called us to do. In the past, many of you have responded generously to this offering in your church. Would you consider helping your congregation reach 100 percent participation in this years offering? If you have not heard anything from your pastor about G.C. Sunday, please ask him about it. If every person who attends an Alliance church participates in this offering, there will be abundant resources available for us to reach lost people for Jesus.

As always, we THANK YOU for your partnership with us in our ministry here in Burkina Faso. We are able to serve the Lord here because YOU are faithful to give to the Great Commission Fund and to our ministry work special account. We appreciate it! Thank you for your prayers and for your encouragement to us. We pray also for you, that the Lord will bless you in your walk with Him.

Hulls Update
April 2008
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

4 people make decisions for Christ in Senefou villages
The evangelism trip in March to the Senefou villages of Konadougou and Kankalaba stretched the faith of the pastors and resulted in four people coming to faith in Christ. Technical problems threatened to discourage the pastors during the first two nights. The devices they use to show the films were not working, so they could not show films either night. Despite this setback, they went ahead with the preaching and singing. The pastors expected people to leave when they announced there would not be a film, but most of the people stayed and heard the Gospel presented by the speaker. God was faithful and four people accepted Jesus as their Savior. The pastors also learned that the film is not the main event but the presentation of the Truth, in whatever form, is what is important.

The previous week in Sobara, Pastor Joachiam learned this lesson when he planned a ten-day evangelism outreach with the Jesus Film. As it turned out, the projection equipment was not available, so the team could not show the film. Instead, they went door-to-door during the day to personally present the Gospel to the people in the village. During the week, 7 people came to faith in Jesus!

The Lord is working in the Senefou region. Continue to pray for the pastors in this area of the Banfora District. Pray that they will take every opportunity to tell people of Jesus and that many more Senefou people will receive the gift of salvation.

Evangelism this week in Samorogwan
This week, Kevin Oberg and Toby are working in the village of Ngana and Samorogwan. The Obergs have been working in Somorogwan for a year, preaching on Sundays and discipling the believers. Plans to build a pastors house and a church are already underway. Pray that the number of believers increases after this week of evangelism. Pray that the district will assign a pastor to this new work in the near future

March 24-27, Toby will be in two more villages for more evangelism outreaches. Pray for receptivity to the Gospel and for the pastors who will be working in these villages. Pray that the Holy Spirit will begin now to soften hearts and prepare people to understand the Truth.

The Storying Seminar is set for next week!
Pastors from all over Burkina Faso will be attending a seminar designed to help them understand the chronological storying presentation of the Bible, which they can use as an evangelistic tool as well as for discipleship. We have invited the pastors from the missionary zones in BurkinaXthose who work in the least-evangelized areas of the country. We will use materials from New Tribes Mission and the International Mission Board. Teaching the Bible using chronological stories is not a new concept, but we hope this seminar will encourage our pastors to use the Bible to teach people of Gods plan for salvation for mankind and also to reinforce Biblical truths for new believers. Storying is a way for pastors to evangelize and disciple people without the big events as films and preaching campaigns. Please pray that the pastors will grasp the important concepts presented at this seminar and they will use these ideas to transform their ministries. Pray that it is an encouragement to these faithful servants in unreached areas of Burkina Faso.

Other Leadership Seminars are coming in May!
Another leadership seminar is planned for the leaders of the Kenedougou region in early May. Pray that it will be a blessing to the church leaders as they begin the work of training and discipling the new believers in each of the villages where the evangelism campaigns took place this year. Pray that the churches will incorporate all of the new converts in such a way as to produce faithful and well-grounded Christians in these villages.

The National Alliance Women have organized a Pastors Wives Retreat at Poundou from May 7-11. Pray that this will be a blessing to our Burkina pastors wives and that many of them will be able to attend the retreat. The cost of the retreat is about $8 per woman, plus the cost of transportation to Poundou. For many pastors in small villages, this cost is very difficult to pay. Pray that the women who need the encouragement and fellowship of this retreat will be able to attend. Pray for the speakers and the organizers as they prepare. (If you would like to sponsor some pastors wives to attend the retreat, clearly mark your check: Hulls Work Special- Pastors Wives Retreat).

Alliance Website and A-Life Magazine
Recently, The CMAs A-Life magazine has published some accounts of our work in Burkina Faso! There are also updated reports on CMA Website. In the March issue of A-Life there is an article by Kevin Oberg about Moussa, a former fetisher from Sirasso who is now a Christian. In the April issue, you can read Tobys article about the village of Sakaby. Check it out online at www.alliancelife.org and on the CMA homepage site at www.cmalliance.org!

AND BABY MAKESK 6X
Lucas Jonathan Hull joined our family on February 24, 2008. We are very thankful for the Lords protection during delivery and for a healthy baby. Thank you for praying for us as we awaited his birth.

EVANGELISM TRIPS FOR MARCHX
Toby spent most of February in Bobo- Dioulasso attending our fields prayer conference and another conference on holistic ministry. He went on a short village trip with the team from Salem, OR, but other than that, he was close to home and within cell-phone range as we waited for the baby to come. As of March 3, however, he is back on the evangelism circuit. This is a busy time of year as we try to get many village trips in now while it is dry season.

Toby and Kevin Oberg are off to Nimberela this week for three nights of evangelism as well as a strategy meeting for discipleship plans for the new villages and believers. Pray for them as they seek the best method of follow-up to be used over the months to come.

Later in March Toby will be in the villages of Cewele, Ngina, and Kankalaba for evangelism trips. Pray for openness to the Gospel in these villages and for the pastors and evangelists who will be speaking. We will report next month to tell you how God answered your prayers in bringing people to Himself!

SCHOOL VACATION AND GRANDMAX
Kenna and Colby have had two weeks off from French school from Feb 22 until March 10. This week, our regional MK education consultant, Debbi Clouser, is in Bobo teaching an enrichment seminar for the children on American history and literature. All of our Bobo MKs are participating in this special event and are enjoying their time with Debbi.

Pray for Kenna and Colby as they start back into French school for the last trimester of the year. Kenna is in 3rd grade and Colby is in kindergarten. We are very thankful for how well they are doing at school and we ask you to pray for them as they continue to learn both in French and in English.

Kierstens Mom, Lois, has been with us since Valentines Day. We have had a wonderful visit with her. She has been such a help to us and it has been a blessing to have her here for Lucas first few weeks.

Pray for her as she participates in some ministry activities during the next few weeks here in Bobo. Pray for us, also, as we will have to say good-bye when she leaves on Easter weekend.

Thank you for your prayers and notes/emails. We appreciate your partnership with us. We depend on your support and prayers as we work here in Burkina Faso.

Happy Easter!

Hulls Update- February 2008

Successful Evangelism Trips in January
Senefou area trip:
The first trip to the Senefou area this year focused on the villages of Sobara, Dakoro, and Moudougou. During the 6 nights, people came to Christ in each of these villages. Although the Senefou people do not seem to quickly come to a decision to follow Christ, we are encouraged by the slow, steady growth of the churches in this area. The Lord is working!

Continue to pray for Joachim and Marthe, the pastoral couple at Sobara, as they are teaching reading classes in surrounding villages over the next few months. Pray that this effort will draw people to Christ as they see the love and concern of the pastor and his wife for the peoples needs.

Pray for the new Sunday school and childrens outreach in Dakoro that is drawing many children and their families to the church.

Toby was able to deliver the wheelchair to the handicapped man in the village near Sobara. He was very thankful! (See photo) The other handicapped man in need received his wheelchair, too. His family came to our house with a church leader to officially thank us for the gift. Thank YOU for your generosity to our work special fund that made these gifts possible!

Alliance Women evangelism trip in the Kenedougou region:

The Burkina Faso National Alliance Womens committee organized an evangelism trip for two weeks in the Kenedougou region from Jan 19-31. Toby accompanied the women and the pastors in this effort. The Lords hand was on them as they prayed, preached, sang, and showed films. In the village of NDorola, 43 people made decisions for Christ. The following Sunday morning several of these new believers attended the service. In Siri, 69 people accepted Jesus as Savior for the first time. The pastor has already re-visited this village for discipleship and follow-up. Many of the new converts there are older men. In Bangaso, 14 people made first time decisions for Christ. In that village, the Lord healed a woman who requested prayer for pain in her leg and healed some children who had some sort of skin disease. Some elders from the local church led a service in the village on Sunday morning and 20 people attended. We also went to the village of Ngorogerela and were able to see nine more decisions for Christ.

The Lord blessed the efforts of the pastors and the women, answering their prayers and calling people to Himself. It was an exciting week! It is a great privilege to be a part of the work in that area. (Photo attached)

Continue to pray for follow-up in these new villages. Pray for the pastors and lay leaders in the Kenedougou region as they are on the front lines of a spiritual battle for souls in that area.

Teaching trip to Poundou:
Kiersten accompanied colleague Esther Schaeffer for another one-day teaching trip to the Jula Bible school in Poundou. It was a gre

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer
