Harry and Jane Landaw

Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

The countdown—1 day remains in our 6th term of missionary service in Japan. We continue to see God opening doors in Japan. "How do you feel about leaving Japan this Saturday?" we were asked at church Sunday. What could we say but, "We feel the ache of leaving the family of God and ministries in Japan, and the anticipation of re-uniting with family and friends and reporting the work of God in Japan." It is a painful and yet peaceful time in the life of a missionary. These past weeks have been days of passing the baton to brothers and sisters as they continue running the race of carrying the Gospel to the millions who have yet to hear. The doors in Japan remain wide open.
IN LEADERSHIP:
As Harry concludes the 2-year Field Director ministry, God has given a new door for our Mission.
We thank God for Don Schaeffer who was elected the new U.S. Team Leader and began May 1.
Don and Hazel, successful church planters, will continue their ministry at Kawaguchi Church as
they also lead the Mission. They are believing God for a Japanese pastor for their church in this
next year. Please pray for them as they lead the Japan Alliance Mission and Kawaguchi Church.

IN CHURCH PLANTING:
It was a joy to join 70 people at the Jesus for all Japan Filipino Church 13-year anniversary a few
weeks ago. Faithful to God's call, Pastor Barro
planted this church which is now pastored by his son. This church has built their
own building and is reaching out to the neighborhood in creative ways. Harry
was asked to speak at this celebration. Please pray for the growing C&MA
Filipino ministry in Japan as they have started 5 churches.

From the church family at Tama
Alliance Church, believers are
daily involved in outreach. Trans-
lating "Our Daily Bread" into
Japanese for publication each
month, membership in Gideons
International by 3 of the believers
and a heart for giving that has funded seminary students and other Alliance churches are a few of their ministries. Their most recent involvement is in a prison ministry with Gideon Bibles. It was a joy for Harry to preach at this church plant recently. Please pray for Pastor Kang as he leads this group that has sent out pastors and full time workers and is believing God for a church building.

IN CONTINUING EVANGELISM:
Partnering with Chiba Church, we have
taught evangelistic English Bible Classes for many years, seeing a number of seekers
accept Christ. With our Home Assignment, a new teacher was needed for the children's
class. God provided a miracle! Ceceil Lee, (to Jane's rt.) was born in Laos. Experienc-
ing the pain of the Viet Nam war, her family spent extended time in refugee camps in
Thailand. A church in Minneapolis brought her family to Minnesota in Ceceil's child-
hood. Ceceil was educated in the States and 2 years ago, put her trust in the Lord at
the Hmong Alliance Church. She felt called to Japan to teach English. She has faithful-
ly attended Chiba Church and was willing to become the teacher for this outreach child-
ren's class. Please pray that this ministry will continue to bring kids & parents to Christ.

Missionary Apprentice, Amy Cervone arrived in Japan 10 months ago to begin a 2-year ministry. We have
worked closely with Amy as she adjusted back to Japan. She had lived here for 9 months in college and also
does very well in Japanese, having majored in Japanese in college. We are thankful for her growth and
desire to do evangelism. She is reaching out to young women in the neighborhood, teaching a Bible Study
and has taken over Jane's 2 English/Bible Classes at Kotesashi Church where Amy is also fellowshipping.
Please pray for Amy as she faithfully proclaims Jesus and is making inroads into many
lives. Praise God that these classes for seekers will continue!!!

IN NEW FRIENDSHIPS LEADING TO CHANGED LIVES: It is a story in process: We
never imagined, in the weeks before leaving Japan, that God would cross our lives with
a family who has become very dear to us. From a meeting at the park as Jane took little
M.K.s to play, to this wife and mom of 2 little girls becoming deathly ill and hospitalized for 4 long weeks, to
God's incredible miracles of healing after prayer together "in Jesus' name" and doctors being confounded by
not finding what had initially been seen on x-rays, God is extending great love and power to all who will accept
Him. Please pray as His plan unfolds in the hearts of this Muslim family. It is difficult to leave them at this point.

Thank you for your faithful giving to the Great Commission Fund and our Japan work funds for ministry to these finding Truth. Thank you for your prayers as we leave for Home Assignment, re-uniting with our children tomorrow. Harry & Jane Landaw

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
