Prayer Letter/Ministry Update
January 5, 2010
Happy New Year Friends!
December seemed to race by and here we are in 2010 already!
Let me try to catch you up on all that God is doing in Poipet . . .
The Baptism on Nov. 28th was a great success with not only more than 30 people being baptized, but six others deciding to follow Jesus for the first time! The month of December was also full of joy, as others (I’m not sure the exact number) prayed to receive Christ, too. And the first Sunday of January, two more chose Jesus! What a wonderful time of harvest we are seeing right now. Last night we realized that if we had enough teachers we could open up 3 or 4 more discipleship groups! Please pray for these new believers and a way for us to get them into God’s Word and learning how to follow Him! The harvest is so plentiful and the workers so few!
On Christmas Eve, the eight church sites came together for one big Christmas celebration. With all of our guests, nearly six hundred people showed up! Special songs, dances, Christmas skits and God’s Word filled more than two hours! Unfortunately, the generator failed at the point in the service when the invitation to follow Jesus was to be given. No power meant no microphones so it was impossible for the six hundred people spread over a large field to hear the invitation. But we trust that God’s Word was planted into the hearts of many and will bear fruit . . . we hope to see an even greater harvest in this new year! Keep praying!
In a previous email, I mentioned a student named Tee-Da who received Jesus as her Savior and Lord. Not long after, her parents and grandparents forbade her to come to church or participate in any Christian activities. Sadly, she was not able to participate in the baptismal service and hasn’t come to any more discipleship or youth classes. Please remember to pray for Tee-Da and other new believers like her who face persecution from family for their faith in Jesus.
The Poipet Church building has begun! But not without difficulties. The day that construction was to begin, we realized that the land deed indicated that this land was zoned for farming, not buildings! Through some strange, but God ordained events, we have received unofficial permission from local authorities to proceed with construction. Praise God! The land deed will eventually need to be changed and unfortunately, because of the nature of the governmental system here will cost nearly $5000! Pray that God will continue to intervene in the construction and land deed issues and that a solid and quality church building will be erected and ready for use by June.
A few other prayer requests for the coming month . . .
1.Field Leadership Team Meetings on January 25-27
2.Missionary Team Prayer Retreat on January 28-29
(Which includes elections for field director)
3. Cambodian Regional Church Leadership Conference on Feb 1-4th
(Which includes elections for the Regional Church Committee)
Again, thank you for your faithful partnership in prayer and giving to the Great Commission Fund. Without you, we can’t do what we are doing here in Poipet, Cambodia! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Depending on Jesus,
Kandi

Dear Prayer Partners and Friends,
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PRAYING! GOD HEARS YOUR PRAYERS AND ANSWERS!
Praises . . .
+ The Cambodian/Thai border has remained opened! Although there is still some tension, it now seems unlikely that the border will close (A lot of money would be lost, particularly by Thailand, if the border were closed. At least for the moment, money is talking . . . or you are praying!)
+ The Church Planting Meeting when well. Only four of the eight church planters were able to make it because of sickness and family issues, but we had two CMA missionaries join us, as well as the KEC church president. These three men made a great contribution to the meeting because each came with unique church planting experiences of their own. The next meeting is scheduled for March 2010.
+ Last month’s regional youth leaders’ meeting also went well and I had the privilege of teaching on hearing the Voice of God.
+ This past Tuesday the “Living Waters” class finished up. This course takes five weeks to go through the gospel and ends with asking each student if they have chosen to follow Jesus as their Savior and Lord. One teenager, Tee-Da, told the class she believes, but has not yet given her life to Christ . . . but she wants to! I had the great joy of leading her in a prayer of faith and the class surrounded her in prayer, too! Now all the students are believers in Jesus – most not even a year old in the faith! Keep praying for Tee-Da. We often see new believers face tremendous spiritual warfare after they choose Jesus.
Prayer Requests . . .
** The group of teenagers who studied “Living Waters” with me is anxious to continue to study God’s Word. So this Tuesday we will start the discipleship book – “Abundant Life.” Pray that God would continue to grow each one of these young believers and that their personal knowledge and love for God will increase!
** Saturday, Nov. 28th we will be celebrating yet another baptism! Some of those who prepared for the last baptism were not able to participate, so we planned to do a 2nd one around Thanksgiving. What better time to thank God for the salvation He freely gives! Pray for the participants (including Tee-Da and Baray, two of the “Living Waters” students) as well as the actual event. Pray that God would protect our time together and that there would be a spirit of praise and thanksgiving.
** The rains have stopped and the preparations are being made to break ground on the Poipet church building. The builder has been hesitant to start because of the Thai/Cambodia tensions, but we are anxious to get it going! The plans of the building have been finalized and it will be a nice sized building with a sanctuary to seat 300 and eight classrooms. Pray the details of construction come together and we are able to start soon!
** Pray also for the all-church Christmas celebration we are planning for December 24th. It will be a bit different from previous years since all eight church sites will be participating, it will be in the evening and at a different location. (We don’t yet have electricity at the Poipet church land site, so we can’t have our celebration there – maybe next year!)
Keep praying! God is at work and you are partners in it!
If you are looking for a special way to thank God for all He’s done in your life this year, consider giving a gift of thanksgiving to one of the following:
Great Commission Fund (indicating that it is for the support of Kandi Lay) – this goes toward support, housing, transportation costs.
Kandi Lay’s Work Special Fund – this goes toward the ministry expenses here in Poipet. Things like Bibles, Bible study materials, transportation costs for Cambodian workers, assistance for the poor in our churches and villages, etc.
Cambodia Church Planting Approved Special – This goes toward church planting expenses throughout Cambodia.
** You can give to any of these through your local Christian & Missionary Alliance Church – just indicate which fund you are contributing to & make the check out to the church.
** OR you can send a check made out to the “Christian & Missionary Alliance” (indicating which fund in the memo line) and send it to: The Christian & Missionary Alliance, P.O. Box 35000, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-3500
** OR you can give online at: www.cmalliance.org/give/worker Type in my name & indicate the fund or click on approved specials in order to give to the church planting approved special.
I can’t thank you enough for standing with me in prayer for the church in Cambodia!
Looking to Jesus,
Kandi

Pray.
The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.
