Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

YESTERDAY

The second annual pastor/leader retreat held the first week of January was a great time for spiritual refreshing. It was held at the time of year, after the busy Christmas rush and before tourist season begins, when lots of businesses close and everything grinds to a halt. Since it was held in Ancona, many from the church were able to attend, some inviting non believing family members. One person prayed to receive Christ as Savior. The theme was Hebrews 13:8. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Thank you for your prayers and your generous donations which made it all possible.

Praise the Lord for His blessing on the church while Pastor Mario and Alejandra Pereya and the family were in Argentina for ten weeks. How thankful we are that they could have time to rest and be ministered to by others. Doug had oversight of the ministry in Ancona while they were away. Several young men and leaders from the church preached and did a marvelous job! God blessed the Pereyas, as well, and they returned with fresh enthusiasm. We sense that the Lord is at work in His church as never before. There is a new spirit of worship and prayer and a desire to study God’s word. Thank you for praying.

TODAY

ALLEANZA CRISTIANA E MISSIONARIA ITALIANA (ACMI) - Plans are underway to affiliate the Italian Alliance Church with Alliance World Fellowship (AWF). A constitution and bi-laws have been written and need some final changes. We trust that Italy will be accepted into AWF at the quadrennial in Thailand in October and Pastor Mario (national church president) and Alejandra will be able to attend.

There is a definite need for discipleship/leadership training in Italian. Several possibilities with other mission organizations are being investigated. Pray that young people sensing a call to serve the Lord will get the training they need to teach and preach.

ANCONA - Since Pastor Mario and Alejandra are supported by Latin America, they are requesting prayer for some very important decisions that will be made during the meetings of CLA (Latin American branch of Alliance World Fellowship) that could affect their ministry and their family.

Their oldest daughter, Abigail and her husband were married last October, in Italy but they are now living in Argentina. Pray that they will grow in the Lord and find stable work.

Their son, Mario Jr. is gifted in music and leading worship. He was hoping to study in Argentina, but that plan did not materialize. Pray for God’s direction in his life. He is presently writing worship music in Italian.

BOLOGNA - Pastor Lea requests prayer for all the church members in Bologna. Pray that they will desire to be more actively involved in the church's activities despite busy work schedules. Pray that they would grow and mature spiritually, maintain personal devotions and have a strong foundation so that they can reach out to their unbelieving relatives and friends. The church project this year is to reach out to youth. Pray for wisdom as Evelyn (treasurer of the national church) and Lea conduct leadership training classes. Pray for God's wisdom, power and daily anointing to manage His church His way

Pray God’s favor, love and protection to surround Lea’s sister in the Philippines who is undergoing family crisis

Pray for daily provision and comfort for Lea’s husband and children, still in the Philippines. Pray for God's guidance and timing regarding plans to bring them to Italy.

MIRANDOLA - Pray that The Lord would encourage and sustain Pastor Antonio and Anna. Several new families have started to attend the church. A prayer group was started in one of the homes. There is a new spirit of evangelism. Antonio is extremely encouraged with the study of “Seeking Him”. Pray for their son, Emmanuel, who is having problems at school.

FOREVER

“Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, the last of life, for which the first was made.
Our times are in his hand who saith,'A whole I planned, youth shows but half;
Trust God: See all, nor be afraid!”
― Robert Browning

Our ministry in Italy is coming to a close. We turn our apartment over to the owner on May 31 and will live in a furnished studio apartment until our departure on June 24. Volunteers from the church painted the walls white and clean for the next tenant. The future renter bought our “kitchen (all the appliances and cabinets), the washer, the dining room furniture, the guest room furniture, all the curtains and light fixtures in the apartment”. We are so thankful! We need to sell or dispose of all the other household items we have accumulated over the past four years. Since there are no other missionaries here to pick up loose ends we need to be sure that all final payments are made for electric, gas, water, etc. and sell our car before we can close our bank account. There are details and more details! Over the next three months we will be visiting each of the pastors and churches for the last time. Pray that we might finish well.

We will be doing Choice Tours in Western Pennsylvania for a year. Following tour we will be “launching our encore” – the last of life for which the first is made. Who knows what God might have in store for our future.

Thank you for upholding us in prayer. Thank you for giving so generously to the Great Commission Fund.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8
