Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

I have been serving in Thailand since September, 1985. For most of those years I have been serving in Northeast, Thailand among the Issan, people. There are over 23 million people who live in this region. This is approximately 1/3 of the Thai population. The Issan are very closely related to their neighbors to the north, the Lao People's Democratic Republic (formerly known as Laos). This region also borders Kampuchia (formerly known as Cambodia). The Issan have their own sub-culture, language, eating habits and social class. From 1992 to 2012, I have was assigned to teach full-time at Northeast Bible Seminary in Khon Kaen, and I loved it! Khon Kaen is one of the hub's of the Issan region and home to the National Church Office of the Thailand Christian and Missionary Alliance(TCMA).

In 2012, I was elected Field Director and moved to Bangkok on May 1, 2012. It was a huge learning curve for me since the majority of my years spent here in Thailand have been in the Issan region. Instead of preparing lectures, teaching and correcting papers my days are now spent largely in Administration and Pastoral Care of our International Workers. I have enjoyed the challenge and count it a great honor to serve the International workers who come under the umbrella of the Siam Mission. More than anything else, this position has grown me in ways I could have never imagined.

In 2016/2017, the Siam Mission launched 2 new church plants. One is in the greater Bangkok region and another in the northeast region. We are also gearing up to plant another 2 churches in 2018. They are both in the baby stages, but we are grateful for the growth we have seen. It brings us great joy to see these new baby churches and trust they will be a beacon of light in their communities.

On October 13, 2016 the Thai people lost their beloved king of 70 years. The nation began a one year national mourning period. Please pray that many would find Jesus to be the source of true comfort.

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

1. Pray for wisdom as I serve as a liaison between the Siam Mission and the Thailand Christian and Missionary Churches.

2. Pray for our two new church planting launches that God would use them to reach their neighbors with the good news of Jesus.

3. Pray for Thai pastors to join our new church planting projects.

4.Pray for creativity in using the funds sent to us from the Great Commission Fund to bring maximum benefit in all of our ministries. We desire to be good stewards of the resources that God has graciously given to us by the faithfulness of His people back home. May we honor Christ in how we use His funds.
