Prayer Letter/Ministry Update
November 4, 2009
Dear friends,
Greetings from Rivera. Spring and summer arrived at the same time. Two days ago it was so hot that it reminded me of muggy hot Puerto Rican days. And today it is cool and raining. It is still a mystery to know how to dress for the day. But I am not complaining about the warm and hot weather since the cold weather had me freezing.
Preparing for the Preaching course has been a challenge. I find myself reading several textbooks on the subject and summarizing the concepts for my students. I continually pray to God that he will help me teach with clarity and simplicity. God is answering fro when I am in class I realize that He gives me ideas on how to explain clearly and how to present and work through the examples with the students. This week I assigned the 18 Bible passages that the students will preach on. What a task! I not only had to assign a passage to each student but I have to work on the passages myself so that I am ready to grade their work. They start preaching on November 26 (Thanksgiving Day) and go until December 10th.
*Please pray for the 18 students as they prepare and then present the sermon in class. It is the first time the majority of them preach.
I submitted all my documents to the immigration office to apply for a resident visa. Amen. Now I wait for the initial response to my application which might come in about a month and a half. If it is favorable at that time I will get a provisional I.D. card.
*Please pray that I will get a resident visa to live here permanently.
Each day I am meeting new people: the guard at the parking lot where I keep the car, the young man who does photocopies at the bookstore, the plumber, salespeople, government officials, physiotherapist, neighbors, etc. Many times they ask why I have come to live in Uruguay.
*Please pray for these people that I am meeting and that I might be a faithful witness with my life and words.

“And this I my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1: 9-11

1. Growth in my personal walk with Christ. I am doing a study in the book of Job.
2. God’s provision for my car. The car cost more than I had available.
3. My dependence on God and His Spirit as I study and teach Homiletics. This is a stretch for me.
4. Brain power for my 18 homiletics students. That they would seek God and learn how to effectively preach God’s word.

SALUDOS DESDE RIVERA. LA PRIMAVERA Y VERANO LLEGARON A LA VEZ. HACE DOS DIAS HACIA UN CALOR QUE ME RECORDABA A PUERTO RICO Y HOY HAY UN FRESCO Y LLUVIA. TODAVIA ES TODA UNA INCOGNITA SABER COMO VESTIR PARA EL DIA. PERO NO ME QUEJO DEL CALOR PUES EL FRIO ME TENIA CONGELADA.
EL CURSO DE PREDICACION HA SIDO TODO UN RETO DE PREPARACION. ME ENCUENTRO LEYENDO VARIOS TEXTOS SOBRE EL TEMA Y RESUMIENDO LOS CONCEPTOS PARA LOS ALUMNOS. MI ORACION CONSTANTE ES QUE PUEDA ENSEŅAR CON CLARIDAD Y SENCILLEZ. DIOS ESTA RESPONDIENDO PUES CUANDO ESTOY EN CLASE ME DOY CUENTA DE QUE EL ME DA IDEAS DE COMO ACLARAR LOS CONCEPTOS O COMO TRABAJAR LOS EJEMPLOS. ESTA SEMANA PASADA ASIGNE LOS 18 PASAJES QUE LOS ALUMNOS VAN A PREDICAR. QUE TAREA, PUES NO SOLO ES ASIGNAR EL PASAJE A CADA UNO ES TAMBIEN TRABAJAR EL PASAJE PARA CUANDO ME TOCA CORREGIR EL SERMON. ELLOS EMPIEZAN A PREDICAR EL 26 DE NOVIEMBRE.
