Brad and Dorothy Wood

Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

June, 2017

Warm greetings from Atlanta, Georgia where we plan to spend the next 12 months on Home Assignment, visiting in churches around the USA. After a month back in the country we find ourselves experiencing the usual reverse cultural adjustments. For example, a “stop” sign here really means stop. It does not mean keep on going as long as nobody else is coming.

We are happy to share that we were able to finish our ministry in the Dominican Republic on very positive notes. Our final nine months were spent living in the capital city of Santo Domingo. During this time I (Brad) was in my prime. My ministry took me primarily to the Haitian Dominican communities in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic. This meant juggling the ministry of leadership training in the Alliance Bible Institute and a specialized ministry for adolescents called The Cutting Edge. The leaders of this ministry were students in the Bible Institute, and they already had long-term relationships with the 28 kids who participated in The Cutting Edge challenge.

In the past few years folks from our Alliance Church in Punta Cana traveled to and ministered among these same immigrant communities. Programs with stories and songs, gift boxes of fruit and food for pastors and their families, and school supplies and backpacks for children all have shaped this sharing ministry. And currently the church is spear-heading an ambitious project for August; therefore, our ministry goes on without our presence.

Our move to the capital enabled Dorothy to do what she does best, that is, leading Poema, a Bible study discipleship among women. These friends are from about 11 different countries. Recently a young woman said, “Thank you for inviting me to your Poema Group. It has been a blessing in my life and has strengthened my conviction that God can work powerfully in our lives.” Then there was a special opportunity to minister when a lady’s son lost his life in a highly-publicized act of terrorism a year ago in the USA. Dorothy’s outreach to this woman in her moment of trauma and grief helped her to begin to cope with the tragedy.

So we have returned to the USA with a great sense of satisfaction and look forward to sharing what God has done. There are more stories we could share. For the moment, however, we simply want to thank you for your prayers and financial support that make this ministry possible.

Blessings from on High,
