It’s great to be home again in Koutiala, Mali after our 6 month home assignment in Newton, IA. But what a temperature change! It was 14 degrees below zero on our way to the Des Moines airport. It was unplanned but fortunately it took us several days to get here and that helped us adjust to the temperature change: One of our U.S. flights was delayed, causing us to miss our flight to Africa. The great thing is the airline put us up in a fancy hotel (after standing in a line for 4 hours) and we got to fly first class to Senegal. (It was a first for us and now we are RUINED! But it was so much fun!) We landed at 6 a.m. and Jonathan headed to his dorm and then class for his first day of school. We stayed one night in Dakar and then were able to get a flight to Mali the next morning. The one day trip took 3 days but we arrived safe and sound and with our luggage too!
Praise God with us for our great home assignment:
- interacting and connecting with our home church and our district churches- Tim had a 2 month tour in district churches and we ended with doing a great missions conference at our home church. We appreciate so much the churches’ willingness to hear our burden for the lost of Mali. Their missions minded hearts encouraged us greatly. We are so thankful for their love for us and for God’s kingdom as well as their support through the Great Commission Fund.
- helping Bev’s Mom through some physical challenges – After 4 hospital stays, 1 operation and LOTS of doctor’s visits, Bev’s Mom was doing great when we left for Africa. We are so thankful that we were there to help her through a difficult time and that God indeed touched and healed her so that when we left she was doing so much better. God is good!
- helping Joel move – We are thankful that God provided a fantastic new job for Joel (age 27) as head engineer for Indiana Moody Radio, living in Anderson, IN. We were able to help him move and see where he works before we headed back to Mali. Again, God has been so good!
- Jonathan’s adjustments – Our resilient senior had a good semester at Newton High School. He enjoyed renewing and making friendships especially with the church kids so it was hard for him to say goodbye. But he had friends who were eagerly waiting for him at Dakar Academy in Senegal. We thank God for helping him through these adjustments.

Here are some prayer requests:
- our adjustment back to Mali – Even though we have lived here 23 years, there have been some adjustments to deal with, one of which is the dirt in the air which is doing interesting things to our lungs
- change in our work – Last term, we were field director couple for the Mali field. We are thankful that God has provided another couple to fill that the responsibility now so we can be free to work in other areas of radio, teaching and evangelism. The needs are so great, please pray that God will direct us as we formulate our priorities and that we will know His will for us.
- Segou project – the evangelism of this city is a burden to our hearts. We were a bit discouraged to hear that the pastor the national church has selected to work there hasn’t moved there yet, but we know God’s timing is perfect. Please pray that God will be preparing the hearts and minds of the people of Segou to hear His word and respond.
-Jonathan’s college choice – Pray that God will lead Jonathan to the right place for his further education after graduation in early June.
Thank you so much for praying for us. We appreciate your love and support.

Pray.

The Alliance believes wholeheartedly in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot “Live the Call Together” unless prayer is central to all we do—as a denomination, as churches, and as individuals.

Give.

You can help build Christ’s Church around the world by donating online to the Great Commission Fund. This fund finances our missionaries, allowing them to focus on ministry rather than raising their own support.

Serve.

Is God calling you to full-time service? Do you want to experience missions firsthand by participating in a short-term missions trip? We want to help you connect your passion with God’s purpose.
