Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

“There is an appointed time for everything and there is a time for every event under heaven. A time to give birth and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 2)

Yes, there is a time for everything.

We have recently entered our final year of service in a foreign country as International Workers with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. From 1979 to 1993 we were privileged to serve in Spain. The last 22 years, from 1993 to the present, have been spent in Mexico.

Although the author of Ecclesiastes said, “So, there is nothing new under the sun”, certainly this new stage of life is new for us! We have not lived anything quite like this transition promises to be.

When we went to Spain in 1979, there were many unknowns. It marked the end of a journey of preparation for missionary service that we had been on for a good number of years. It was also the beginning of countless opportunities to trust the Lord in reaching a spiritually needy country.

The cycle of serving in a foreign country is now nearing the end. It’s hard to believe. Yet even as the Lord opened doors of opportunity in Spain and Mexico, we have no doubt He will do the same again.

The plan is to spend one more year in Mexico, and one year on tours in the United States before we officially retire in the summer of 2017.

There is a lot to do in the year we have left in Guadalajara, Mexico. We ask your prayer for the following:
1. The process of turning over the direction of the seminary to primarily Mexican leadership.
2. The process of continuing to develop the body of professors who will carry on the teaching responsibilities after we leave.
3. The process of saying “Good-byes” while at the same time encouraging and building up those whose friendship the Lord has blessed us with for so many years.
4. The process of selling the majority of our household, and starting almost from scratch when we return to the States.

The seminary is God’s ministry. Our deepest desire is that He continues to use it in the development of church leaders. Only He knows exactly what shape that will take. As always, there will be obstacles in each of the “processes” we have mentioned as prayer requests. We need wisdom and an attentive ear to God’s voice as we navigate the changes.

We are eternally grateful for your love, prayer and financial support these many years. You are part of our team!

He is Faithful,
Steve and Debbie Zopfi
